XSR700 recall - UK?

Hi all - I was called by my dealer today after he received an email from Yamaha requesting a recall based upon safety grounds. The issue appears to centre around the routing of the ignition wire. Bikes are being recalled to Yammie dealers to have the wiring in question re-routed. Anyone else had this message yet? Formal email from Yammie due in 4-5 days - my dealer was simply trying to get ahead of the game to help him order in the necessary quantity of required parts (although if its just a rerouting of a wire I'm not sure what parts are needed). Thanks

Just checked my VIN on the Yamaha UK 'Modification Checker'
Your vehicle with VIN *VG5RM111???????????* is not in the affected range for any Factory Modification Campaign.
Have you check yours there?
Yes, mine also says its not affected although I assumed that this was a matter of timing. Either my dealer has got the message wrong or the Yamaha mod' site needs updating - I guess we will see in the next few days . . . .
Hi,

I got a call from my dealer on Saturday saying I will get a letter in the post and that it will need to go back because of wire issue. I bought mine in July btw. Cheers
I've not had anything through yet and i bought mine in May.
Portugal... Contacted today to make appointment .... Mine from July..
Bought mine in January, just got a call from the courier that I got an envelope from Yamaha...
Seems like mine needs it done as well. Just called my local dealer who are ordering the part.

If you need to check use this link: https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/services/modification-checker/index.aspx

Edit: I got my bike in August

Thanks for the link John, just checked mine and sure enough it needs doing.
Yep, letter was waiting at home. At least they are proactive. That is a recall for the R3 that Mrs Mark owns and now mine as well.

Crazy, i'm in exactly the same position. First my missus R3 was recalled a few months back and now mine. Still, the service I've received from my dealership has been outstanding. Hopefully I can get mine in over the weekend.
Recall

Just had my Recall letter from Yamaha Europe. Only bought mine in October, still it's gotta be done.
Do we get a free hop up for the inconvenience?

Did you ask for this compensation? Or did he proposed it himself?

My bike is also included. My dealer didn't inform me yet but my bike is in the dealership for something at this moment, so maybe he is going to do the changes without mentioning it.

I'm thinking of the double akrapovic so half price would be great.
Contacted the dealer today, they said that not all bikes need to change the cable, I will send them my license and they will see. They also told me that it's not imperative to do the change immediately, it can be done along with a service. If you think about it it is right as the cable needs some time to be damaged so that it does harm.
I've had the work done now, the dealership were a bit vague about what was done? I never really gave the wiring much attention but it doesn't look as neat to me now and the wires are wrapped now.....not sure this was the case before? Anyone else had theirs done yet?

I've had mine done as well. To be honest, I can't see much difference, saying that, I didn't really pay attention to the wiring before I took it in.
I've had a call from dealer too.

Had a quick look last night and can see what I think the problem is (see image attached)

This is on the clutch side of the steering tube, and the cable marked with yellow line (I've added some extra protection to a small section) travels in the direction of the green arrow across the guide holding the throttle cables in place. By process of elimination, I think this is the cable for the start switch.

The bent over tip of this guide (circled in orange) is VERY sharp/rough, and before I added extra protection to the cable, the insulation tape taped over the plastic sheath from factory had already been destroyed, and I've not even ridden the bike yet, but was caused when I installed heated grips.

So that's what was sawing through the cable. Seems like an easy fix by owners, maybe even add a bit of tape to the bent over bit to smooth out any rough edges as a precaution.
