Good evening
I have a 2016 xsr700, I would like to make some changes to it.
I have a double output Akrapovic exhaust (see photo, not mine).
Currently the exhaust is attached with the footrest.
Does anyone have any idea how to maintain it if I remove the footrest?

For a simple version:
  • Measure how far the muffler mount hole is from one of the foot peg mount holes.
  • Cut a length of flat steel stock about 5.5 cm longer than that measurement to have enough length. Use steel for the strength.
  • Drill one hole in the flat stock for the foot peg mount hole
  • Bolt the strap not quite tightly on the frame so you can bend the strap to fit.
  • Mark the muffler mount hole position, remove the strap and drill it.
  • Test fit, should be good.
  • Grind the ends of the finished tcrap so it is fairly rounded and neat.
  • Clean, sand, and paint the strap.
  • Get 4 stainless steel M8-1.25 x 20mm button head socket (allen) cap screws to fill the foot peg mount lug holes and bolt on the strap. Check this length, you do not want the bolts to bottom out in the frame. Three fasteners will fill the holes and one to mount the strap. The button head looks better than the open lug holes.
  • Get 1 stainless steel M8-1.25 x 20mm socket head (allen) cap screw and nylock nut to bolt the muffler to the strap.
  • Important: If you use stainless steel fasteners for any reason, use anti-seize compound on the threads. Stainless steel galling (sticking in like metal and other metals) can stick fastners so solid the bolts have to be snapped and drilled out - not a pretty picture. Get some anti-seize. click here for more information.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I have. Isn't uncommon on dirt track bikes. It's a simple set up. Of course one could get a bit more stylish and make a sort of triangle using both holes from the foot pegs to make more of a plate, but that's a lot of work. Not my bike, but as you see, flat stock. Probably aluminum, but I'd do steel since the extra bit of weight isn't really relevant.

Another would be to get some tubing to make a similar three point mount, like used on Jeff Palhegyi's DT-07 street tracker. I'd do that if I had the welding skills.

I think I'm going to do that to start (original support and grind the footrest), I'll see later at work to do something else. I don't find it very aesthetic like in the first photo, but a lot of people do as ca (cheaper)
