*this is an entirely selfish plea in hopes Yamaha is monitoring this site

Dear Yamaha,

I'm a 37yr old American who has been riding motorcycles for 17 years. Last July I was hit by a drunk driver while riding my 2003 Honda 919 that I had lovingly crafted to be the perfect bike (I've had more than a few different models and makes). Your new XSR700 is exactly what I was shooting for. I realize it is essentially the same as the Fz-07. Which is a great bike, but I'm not a fan of the looks. The XSR700 though, I would buy in a pinch. I've got a huge insurance check burning a whole in my pocket. And about 6 more months to heal a broken pelvis before I am comfortable enough to ride again. There's plenty of great bikes I could buy, but I want that xsr700. Bring it, and I will buy it.

All the best with your healing!

I'm waiting for Yamaha to decide too. I think there's enough interest across the pond for them to profit here.
Come on Yamaha! You have 6 months to decide!

If you really like it, will you have one shipped to you?

They might just be waiting on it to pick up momentum elsewhere to get buyer proof to help convince americans to get it. The American market isn't an easy one and having real owners show the soundness of the product goes a long way.

In 'Motorcycle Sport & Leisure' magazine (January), Yamaha UK's marketing manager is quoted as saying that "the XSR [700] is expected to sell better in Europe than the US [than the MT-07]......." He should know a thing or two. 👍

I cannot see how to edit in this forum as I wanted to expand what the marketing manager said in the article which was about the XSR700. This was part of his response to the question: 'How do you expect the XSR to sell in comparison to the MT-07?'.

"The XSR is expected to sell better in Europe than the US, where the scene is more retro-cruiser rather than retro-sports".

Maybe that helps, although I don't want to raise false hopes over there!
