Hi All,

Picked up my xsr700 a couple of weekends ago. Originally went in to purchase a 2021 R7 WGP, but saw this in the corner and fell in love, and picked it up for under half the price of the r7. Previous bike as a 2018 ktm rc390, but needed a bit more 'bike'

Already has MT07 Akrapovic Ti exhaust, NRC tail tidy/S2Concept headlight and surround, Michelin pilot 5 tyres, protaper low mid bars and bar end mirrors, plus had 20k (12k miles) service, new chain and battery (18k on the clock, all one owner, full service history, bought bike new at that dealer and then traded in) Is also unrestricted, highflow lid and filter, and remapped ECU to suit.

I've already purchased and installed

Kelpi black leather diamond stitch cover and matching diamond grips,
LED Headlight bulb and parker
Black SD-R CNC Machined adj levers
R6 throttle tube
smaller front indicators (arrive tomorrow)

and currently looking at smaller front fenders (rizoma/C.Racer/SW Motech) and debating swapping bars to hurricane fat swallows, or some clip-ons. Maybe even the S2Concept bolt-on/riser replacement kit, XSR900 clubman bars seem a bit too extreme for what i want, and i find them a bit too rounded-looking.

Have also just finished painting a lot of factory parts satin black, will be ceramic coating the exhaust black too now i think.

Also looking at the S2concept seat cowl, but being my bike is garage metal paint match is going to be a royal pain, so may end up painting the tank sides nardo grey at some point along with adding a cowl. I may also add a belly pan at that point, see how it goes.

All in all a hell of a bike for what I paid. Stoked.

Thank You Gentlemen! Ill hopefully get out on it tomorrow and take some better pics.

Exhaust is going off next week to be coated, then looking at more body parts and bars. Looking at suspension as well but want to get some more K's on it before i start changing too much.

What have people done about neating up cables on their bars? Possible to re-route?

That's not too shabby at all, I might try some braided cable tubing and see how that looks.

Cheers for the tip!

Hi and welcome to the forums. Enjoy your ride.

XSR or R7, what a little difference :), but think you made a good deal on your current ride,

Yeah I know haha, I had a hard-on for the 80's styling. It's sickening how good it looks. but this was tucked away in the corner.... and it was love. Probably a bit more "age appropriate" for me too.

And with the price difference (XSR was about 50% cheaper, new R1 was around $16K AUD) ive done nearly everything ive wanted to, bought all new riding gear, insurance and registration for a year, and put a heap of cash back in the bank, and probably had more fun too. R7 Would have stayed stock for the foreseeable future, i was able to get right into mods etc straight away with this.

Im just looking at suspension now, Unsure if i just go for thicker oil and preload adjusters, or should look at a full kit with front springs too? I only really want to do it once.

Ive put more preload into the rear shock, and its noticeably better.

Bit unsure as im a pretty big guy (6ft 1, 120kg/265lbs, VERY broad etc) and dont want to make changes that dont really do anything, or also make changes i dont need to. But i also probably havent had enough time in the seat to really tell. Thats what REALLY needs to happen, ride time. It bucketed down with rain all weekend here so didnt really get a chance to head out.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
how did you repaint your plastics?
In the spray, how did you prepare them before painting?
what paint did you use?
Thank you in advance for your answer
Hi! And thank You!

Scuffed really well with scotch-brite pads, Red works best, white is too fine and green is too coarse
Clean really well with wax and grease remover.
Plastic primer
satin black paint (3 coats)
satin clear (2 Coats)

The primer and paint/clear was all Rustoluem "Custom" plaint.

Ive done a lot of stuff like this (car plastics etc) and never had an issue

Its kinda cold here atm as well, so i left the cans in hot water for 5 minutes before spraying, and heated up the plastics with a heatgun as well.

Then happened to be sunny day i sprayed the clear to they sat in the sun baking for 3-4 hours. Fitted them that night.

Beautiful ride by the way !
Please update on painted headers, did mine on VHT, with scuffing, primer, paint, clear coat and idle curing as per the book, and they're miserably peeling away : (

Thanks! Appreciate it!

I've used VHT before and had similar issues, I find the duplicolor heat paint much easier to work with, and better results. Intercooler piping etc. I was actually going to ceramic coat the pipes, but after receiving some pretty staggering quotes this week, I think I may go down the paint route myself.

Let you know how I get on.
