Hi guys new here and just got myself my first motorbike in a long time xsr 700 2019 with 11500km bought second hand not from a dealer and I'm a lil worried about something when I rev it at a cold start there is quite alot of smoke but as it warms up it is ok when I purchased the bike I checked th3 radiator for bubbles there was none the bike was kinda already warm when buying it as he had to drive abit to the location of pick..so I didn't notice this smoke till two days later..and its the same thing happening after every cold start but once heats up no smoke..I have marked the coolant with a pen to keep an eye on the lvl and after driving it maybe 200kms since buying it the coolant has dropped abit over an inch is this something I should be getting looked at straight away or am I having anxiety over a new purchase any answers would be very helpful thank you for your time

Welcome. What colour is the smoke? If it's white and only happens with a cold engine this is water vapour and is normal for all internal combustion engines - every gallon of petrol burned produces about a gallon of water.

However, if your coolant level is dropping then it could indicate a blown head gasket but I think this is unlikely. If your head gasket had blown then the bike would run roughly and possibly not idle. The coolant level as shown in the overflow reservoir will change depending on engine temperature - you would need to check it with a cold engine. If you are checking it with a cold engine and you're sure it's dropping then go to the dealer - maybe start photographing the level/recording mileage for proof (?). They could do a pressure test to check for leaks.
The meter gauge can be set to display water coolant temperature, on my bike (a 22 model) it runs at just over 100°C in stop start traffic and lower (70-80) on open roads at 60mph. (100kph).

Sorry for that mistake I'm new here thank you so much for your reply my temperature stats are the same as yours and yes this only happens when it is cold started I have thought of vapour but was just worried it was worse then that been paranoid as was an expensive buy I will keep checking the things you said to be safe it idles fine takes a good 10 mins or more to get high temperature when left idle once heated no smoke while driving or warm..so I guess your right this is vapour thank you so much for your reply you have put my mind at ease god bless
