Headlamp from the XSR900

So I swapped my headlamp for the one from the XSR900.

Or more precisely I swapped the gray plastic part/bucket thing. The lamp itself, together with the black rim around it is exactly the same part on both XSRs.

I ordered the case from the XSR900, it costs around 100 Euros (quite a lot for a piece of plastic if you ask me...).
The mountings are almost the same, putting the lamp into it is no problem, as they are the same, but the whole case from the XSR900 hangs a little lower (about 10mm), which means it intersects with the bolt fixing the pitch of the lamp. On the last picture you can see that I had to cut out a section to let it through (I only cut the new part, nothing on the bike).

I like the look of it a lot, it looks less like having a huge cannon mounted on the front imo :). What do you think?

Looks much better than the 700 unit...thanks for the info:smile2:
+1 :)
Very cool mod

I have only one question.
Why is there a difference between XSR 700 and XSR 900 headlight bracket ?
On the 700, the bracket holds the headlight at 3 points...
you are probably the 3rd person I seen do this for the day, won't be surprised if there's a lot more that end up doing it.

did you just keep the OEM bulb or upgrade it to something else?
@hotwheels No idea why the bracket is different. I think on the 900 it is also held in three places, but unfortunately they are not the same... I guess it was not the designers priority to make them interchangeable.
@YamahaFan It is possible that one of them was me, I did mention it in my introduction post, as I just joined the forum today. I just wanted to post this in this category, not to mix up the forum too much :)
please could you tell us which parts did you buy : http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/571506d187a8661278a052d3/headlight

The part #16 you talk about is around 23$ ???

Thank you for the precision ;)
That is very interesting, part #16 is exactly the part I was talking about... I didn't actually check the price myself (didn't know where), I just ordered it at the dealer where I bought the bike. Is that a US site? In Switzerland everything is usually a bit more expensive but five times as much I find hard to believe.

I'll have to have a word with my dealer then, thank you for pointing that out...
I know Switzerland, my wife is from Valais :)

It's a US site that sells OEM Yamaha Parts.
We've got one site in France that sells Yamaha parts too. But they don't already list the XSR 900 :(

Hey streettriple, I'm from the canton of Aargau, about an hour from Basel. The only part I ordered for the headlamp mod was the case from the xsr900, which I got from my local dealer. The tail tidy and the speedo holder I made myself from a piece of sheet metal. Also I got an LSL handlebar from my dealer and an exhaust from Italy (but I don't think the papers I got with it would stand a closer inspection by the police, I think they are only for EU...).

If you have a more specific question you can write me a personal message.

Aparently it is around 100 EUR all around EU and the only way how to get it cheaper is to order from the US and pay the ridiculous shipping to EU. But still costs "just" 70 EUR including shipping. The cheapest mod IMHO unless you want to buy a new headlight and fiddle about fitting it to the xsr700.
Are all the headlight xsr900 bodies Grey ? Fancy doing this but not at UK prices no dealers list colours so are all the outsides of B90-84311-00-P0 grey ?
Did you buy all the internal parts or are they also in the XSR700 headlight shell?

More specifically parts 20 and 23

There are different colours based on the specific year/colour of the bike, there's even a blue one in 2016. I've found many different model numbers (B90-84311-00-P0 - B90-84311-00-P4) when I looked, one was even a completely different part number.

The prices vary, presumably because the black ones might not be painted.

(Because I've only recently become active, I'm not allowed to post links so you'll have google them)
Thanks for the info will have a look see cheers Mark

Hi did u change the headlight bucket? What mods was required? Did u cut the lower part to keep it in place as “Dukesev” did? Apart from that part(B90-84311-00-P4) u had to buy any other part as well? Was it all black as mentioned?
Sorry I got a lot of questions but appreciate your reply so I can get going with mine . Post some pics if u can

Cheers from Sydney!!!

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if the xsr900 headlight brackets work with the 700?
