Exhaust Dilema

Hi everyone

I've been looking at a new exhaust system as I just don't think it sounds how it should!

I have read on here about the different kinds and makes but it is hard to gauge on sound through a video.

I love the design of the stock exhaust being short and under the bike so like the idea of something similar looking.

I am not bothered about extra performance although I understand most will give a little extra. I just want a nice deep burble and a bit of grunt.

So looking at the Scorpion and Akrapovic which I think look good and similar to the stock. I just want some advice on sound and also with the Akrapovic saying it is only for race use is it legal to have that exhaust..I know you can buy an extra cat converter for it but then it ends up a lot more expensive than the Scorpion. Is the price difference worth while???

Any suggestions are more than welcome

Thanks

It all depends on your budget and wether u want to spend over 10% of the bikes overall cost on an exhaust.
I have been wondering tgis myself and have seen the scorpion serkat and heard it and its very bice and deep.
Alternatively but a used stock exhaust and drill the 6 1/8 holes (i think) around the end pipe and cut 2 inches of tail pipe off and it will greatly improve the stock sound.
Used cans are around £150-£200 mark so considerably cheaper.
Im set on the serkat but wgen i look at the 10% of the bikes total cost i do wonder if its worth it......akros are pushing 15% depending on what 1 you get.
I was swaying more towards the Serkat but just wondered if the difference in money was really worth it?

I heard a Akropovic on one in the garage with the baffles out and it was just too loud!

I really like the idea of making the bike a bit more individual to my taste even though its a great looking bike anyway! Ive put the R&G tailtidy on which gets rid of that bulky plastic and looks great.

i dont want to rip it apart but just add some tweeks. Defo going to put the xsr chainguard on as I like the look of that

Is that the tank coloured one?
It's all down to personal preference and like Matt says budget....
Me personally went with an SP engineering one for the princely some of £390 for the full system, fits the bike lookswise and sounds awesome....could'nt/would'nt justify spending anymore... but that's just my two penneth of course.
Yes chain guard in alli to match the silver bike.

I was looking at all the different types of exhaust and a lot of them are great looking but with me being new to big bike some say not road legal and put fuel adapters on to change the fuel mix?

I must say I dont think I could justify nearly a grand on an exhaust but with the scorpion one is £570 which seems fair
Scorpion serkat is a bit of a beast and it pops flames due to the back pressure which is cooooool lol.
Im now swaying toward sp engineering as it just fits the bike best and its price point is very very reasonable. the serkat is a very modern sporty design more at home on the MT07 but i still want it as the sound is epic
Some say the sp engineering is toooo much???? Not heard it in real life so would not know.

I need to get up very early and go to work for 05.30 so do worry i may upset the neighbours when i commute on her....
Just had a peek at the SP engineering exhausts they are very reasonable but so many models to choose from????
On the instructions for fitting it also says fits to back peg mounts and wondering if its too high up for my liking??unless theres an underslung model?
If I was to go for the scorpion it would be in the titanium as I think it blends in a bit better but I reckon its just personal preference.
I might just bite the bullet and order a scorpion as I think thats my favourite and who doesnt like a bit of back fire!!
The sp zorst is low slung mate but if its the scorpion you want do it..... (i would if i could but im saving to move country!!!)
Thanks Matt.

Hope you are taking the bike with you!
The Scorpion is top of my wish list at present as well. I like the slightly cone shaped end can which complements the 'classic' lines of the bike. I had a Scorpion power cone on my old Gladius - it made a lovely deep note but not too offensive. I agree the titanium finish probably looks best. I'm watching and waiting - you occasionally see sellers discounting them. Even 10% off is worth a bit of a wait!

Where did you get it at that price yamaboy.....? (Job well done mate) cheapest i can find is direct from site scprojects at £570 €620 a smidge cheaper than the scorpion.
Like the mivv ghibli and you can get that at a bargain price of about 380 for tge full system and it suits the bike...
Ok so I have gone for the SERKAT in titanium finish..

Hopefully be with me some time this week so I can get it onto the bike at the weekend and take it for a ride! Weather Permitting as its slatting it down right now!

On ebay direct from SP engineering http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MT-07-14-...aust-System-/281727390107?hash=item419842d19b even cheaper than i paid too!!!

Listed for MT-07 but obviously same fitment, just had to slightly modify the rear hanger that comes with the zaust (nothing major), but it bolts onto the rear footpeg body, as for noise it sounds loud and pops bangs on overrun, i love it..... but my Ducati 1200 exhaust sounds louder and that's standard (although renowned for sounding great) , deffo needs the db killer in...
compared to the standard exhaust it will sound loud.. but then anything will compared to the 'silent' oe exhaust....
They even sent me a free neck warmer too:grin2:

Let us know what you think of the exhaust note (with baffles still in, ideally!).
Yeh i am going to leave the baffles in I just want a nicer tone to the sound I dont want to deafen anybody!
I initially wanted the Mivv Ghilbi, then was deciding between SC Project, Akra Ti and Akra dual pipe. I ended up with a Zard.

SC Project and SP Engineering are 2 different makes SC Project being the more expensive ones
Yes that was my bad mate i meant sp engineering but for some reason said sc projects. I do like the sc projects i must admit with that mesh end. I just love all the exhausts to be fair lol
