check ebay for:

yamaha obd2 cable (MT07/MT09/MT10/XSR900 are all compatible) - £15
maxiscan ms309 - £10

will read/erase error code if EML comes on (obviously take whatever action you deem necessary once you know what the error code is)

I posted the thread mentioned by biffy, mine was for a rear wheel speed sensor fault (which came on immediately after it's first decent wash, suspect water ingress), cleared it myself with the above setup and another 400miles (and first service) has passed without it coming on again.

Ive put a straight through exhaust on my xsr700 my engine management light has come on is that because there isnt the catalytic converter for the exhaust sensor
