I've just re fitted the akropovic exhausts back onto my XSR700 (mechanics had to re install the stock exhaust for roadworthy). The exhaust headers don't seem to be sitting flush but it seems to have gone in as far as possible. I think it's fine and the bike seems to run nicely with no exhaust leaks but I wanted to check if this is normal. I'm pretty new to doing any mechanical work so better to be safe!

Ah yes it turned out it was just a clutch cable adjustment issue (30 minutes labour cost)! got lucky!
